SECTORS  /  Manufacturing

Manufacturing engineering that keeps the line running.

A machine remembers every change ever made to it. The drawings usually don't. We keep the engineering as current as the machine.

OVERVIEW

Downtime is the most expensive machine on the floor.

A production line is a machine made of machines, and one breakdown stops everything. Each of them ages, changes hands or gets modified in a hurry. The engineering underneath drifts with every change, until nobody can say whose numbers the line is running on.

Novantum designs the tooling, the guarding and the plant modifications. The documentation happens with the work, not after. Numbers known, drawings true, every change a design project instead of a gamble.

SCOPE
Tooling, jigs and fixtures

Good tooling is the difference between a process and a habit. We design it to make every part in tolerance, whoever is on the machine.

  • Jigs, fixtures and gauges designed for the part and the pace
  • Lifting and handling frames designed to the working load limit
  • Weld fixtures and assembly aids that control distortion and fit
Plant and equipment

Machines get moved, modified and pushed into new work. We design the change before the machine feels it.

  • Machine design and modification, verified by analysis
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems for plant and tooling, sized and specified
  • Platforms, access and plant support steel, designed to standard
  • Pressure equipment design and verification, hazard level assessed to AS 4343, registration-ready
  • Conveyors and automation cells integrated into the line
  • Relocations and installations engineered, not improvised
Guarding and safety

A guard is the boundary between the machine and a person. We engineer it like one.

  • Machine guarding designed and reviewed to AS 4024
  • Controls that eliminate or minimise the risk so far as is reasonably practicable
  • Safety functions specified and verified to category and performance level (PLr)
  • Safety retrofits scoped to the stoppage the line can afford
Change and compliance

Every change to the line is a small design project, whether anyone treats it that way or not. We do.

  • Modifications engineered and documented before they run
  • Drawing sets and registers brought back to reality
  • Registrable plant designed to the registration requirements, designer's statement signed
  • Design registration applications prepared and lodged
  • Records that answer the auditor and the next engineer
ENGAGEMENT

Start while the line is running.

Tell us the cell, the machine or the change you need to make. We come back with the scope and what it takes, planned around the line.
